Magnificent Magnets

I just love our new magnet page. I know I am prejudice, but to me the page just seems so fun bursting with vibrant colors. It is such a happy little web page. Can web pages be happy? Any hoo, we replaced our 1.5” square sets for new bright and colorful rectangle 2 x 3” sets. Reproduced from my sister’s original watercolors, the details on our teacup magnet set are amazing. Hat Teacup MagnetFlower Tea Cup Magnet From the intricate lace doilies, the whimsical wallpaper, to the detail design of the actual cups and saucers themselves, something new jumps out at you every time you see them. I keep trying to decide which is my favorite, the clocks, the hats, the butterfly, or the flowers, but I would just have to have one of each. The color palette is bright and bold with purples, greens, and pinks giving them a bit of a French flair.

Maybe it was that French flair that certain je ne sais quoi that inspired our 3 French magnet sets. These sets feature the graphic design work of my sister, and are tres irresistible. French Cafe MagnetFrench Kitty MagnetFleur de li MagnetFirst there is the sophisticated and classic French Kitty, sporting a beret and lovely scarf, of course in superbly coordinating colors of purple, pink, peach and sage. Then there is our stately fleur de li set for the more refined of refrigerators and bulletin boards. Finally our French melody set of magnets includes the romantic Paris café scene and then the French wine bottles featuring our own label Chat Boudant (pouting cat). Oolala!

Mod Flower MagnetsMod Dot MagnetsFrom fabulously French to fad and funky, our mod and flower power magnet sets are absolutely groovy. They come in flowers, dots, and pinwheels. In bright fun colors, trendy designs, these magnets surpass hip and enter in to a dimension of their own.

Now it is time to go from fun and fad to....uh, organizational? Excuse me? Yes, that is right, organizational word magnet sets. For those that feel their magnets need an exact purpose, this set spells it right out on the magnet: coupons, grocery list, take out, appointments, now, later, work and leisure. Our hope with these sets is to give back the time spent looking for a scrap piece of paper to write down your grocery list, Take Out MagnetGrocery List Magnetshuffling through that kitchen drawer for your favorite Chinese take-out menu, or frantically searching for that 2 for 1 pizza coupon. No more looking, it is just right there under these handy dandy magnets.

Speaking of lists, most of the magnet sets also have coordinating notecards...won’t your refrigerator look so chic.

Cone Felted Gift Tags

The felted goodness continues with enchanting wool felt cone gift tags. In a regal color palette of blues, browns, purples and turquoises, these wool felt cones are embellished with hand-sewn details and a ribbon for hanging.Purple Cone Felt Gift Tag Each wool felt gift tag has a small pouch where you can insert flower buds, a sweet note or any other small treat or trinket. You can attach them with a bow to your wrapped packages, hang them on bottles of perfume, wine, gourmet vinegars or oils. They can also be given on their own with a note or treat inside, left on a co-worker’s desk or at the breakfast table for a child. The wool tags would even fit in a greeting card for a little extra surprise. They are sold in sets of four; one wool felt cone gift tag in every color.

Purple Cone Greeting CardWe have also added a new spring greeting card to our seasonal greetings. The greeting card is reproduced from my sister's recent watercolor of a fabric cone with irises. The color palette is very French country, with golden yellows, deep pinks, rich blues, and sage greens. Then beautiful irises beam from the top with their delicate pedals overflowing down the sides. My sister is known for her intricate detail work that is shown through the elaborate fabric patterns of the cone and then the delicate draping flower pedals. A welcome addition to our spring greeting card collection.

May Day Baskets

Flower
I am not sure how this even came up, my guess is it was on or near May 1st, but I was having coffee with a couple of friends and the subject of May Day came up. I said I could remember as a child how my Mom and I would decorate paper cups then put candy and flowers in them to leave on my friends' doorsteps. I would ring their doorbell and then quickly run away before they would see me, a traditional May Day activity in the small rural town I grew up in. My one friend laughed and said she could remember doing that too for May Day in the small town she grew up in. Then we both noticed that our other friend, who grew up in the city, was looking at the two of us like we had tentacles growing out of our heads. She had never heard of May Day before, which totally surprised me. It never occurred to me that people would not know about this holiday, a celebration to welcome spring and the coming of summer.
Flower
May Day is celebrated in many parts of the world. Its roots can be traced back to the Roman Festival, Floralia, and the Celtic celebration, Beltane, also known as Beltain or Bealtaine. Floralia was a five-day festival to honor the Goddess Flora with dancing, ringing bells, May Queens, flowers, and the Maypole. The Beltane ceremony honored the god of the sun and the rebirth of the earth, a celebration of fertility, flowers, sensuality, and delight. Bonfires lit the hillsides and there were games, dancing, feasting, and merrymaking. The Celts also celebrated with the Maypoles. It was said if the dancers wove a perfect pattern with the ribbons, it would be an excellent harvest, but if the ribbons became entangled, the harvest would not be as bountiful.
Flower
Other May Day traditions include, decorating windows and doorsteps with flowers to keep out mischievous fairies, filling baskets with flowers to leave on the doorsteps of the sick or elderly to bring good health for the coming year, children hanging baskets on their neighbor's doorknob, knocking and then running away, and in some areas it is said if they get caught, then they are suppose to get a kiss. In some countries it is still a tradition for boys to secretly plant a May pine tree under the window of the girl they love. In England they still choose a Queen and King of May and dance around the Maypole. Since the Puritans did not celebrate May Day, it was never celebrated with as much enthusiasm in the United States. However in some towns, children still make paper baskets, fill them with flowers and candy to leave on their neighbors' doorknobs.
Flower
As I mentioned above, I can remember making my May Day baskets out of paper cups. Besides leaving them on your neighbor's doorstep or doorknob, you can place them at the breakfast table to give your family a wonderful surprise to start their day, or leave them on co-workers' desk to brighten up their workday. Whether you traditionally celebrate May Day or not, it is always nice to get a basket full of flowers and candy, but what is even nicer is to not forget this special day and the lore behind it. Happy May Day!

Flower
Paper Cup May Day Baskets

You will need:

White paper cups*
Pipe cleaners
Crayons, paint, stickers or material scraps to decorate the cups
Hole punch
Glue (optional)
Scissors (optional)

Take the white paper cup and draw or paint a design on it. You can also apply stickers to decorate the cup or you can cut out different shapes of material to glue to the cup. Once you have your cup designed you need to make the handle. You do this by taking the hole punch and punching two holes across from each other about 1/4" inch from the top of the cup. Take a pipe cleaner and wrap one end through one of the holes two or three times securing it tightly, then take the other end of the pipe cleaner and wrap through the other hole two or three times making sure it is secured tightly. Fill the cup with flowers and or candy.

*You can also buy decorative paper cups and just add the pipe cleaner handle.

In Honor of Earth Day, April 22nd

Fall Tree
TREE

“To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven, a time to be born, and a time to die….”

In the spring the tree is an inspiration of life. Dark green teardrop shaped leaves attached to deep mahogany branches laugh when gently tickled with April showers. Randomly scattered on each branch are the beginnings of small shoots pushing their way through the thin coarse bark. After breaking through, these shoots begin to bloom, blossoming into their own flower patch. The miniature clusters of flowers glisten when the early morning sun shines on the small droplets of spring dew that silver coats the flowers. The tree flourishes.

Summer TreeIn the summer, a hot afternoon breeze causes the tree to perform exotic dances. The baking of the dry summer sun dulls the olive green color. The branches slightly sag for they have a new burden to bear. The lightweight, dainty blossoms are no more. Now the tree bears fully ripened fruit. Big perfect round black berries with a reddish tint catch the eye. The tree flaunts its treasure, black pearls that tempt all curious spectators. Pirates, or small sparrows and other scavengers raid the tree of its riches. With berries gleaming in the blistering summer sun, excitement of the chattering birds and the other scavengers feasting, the tree is the center of activity.

Fall TreeAs nights begin to cool and the hectic days slow down the tree no longer has any ornaments to attract the small creatures. As other vegetation sheds its color, the tree merely changes its garments from the shades of green to bold and noble tones. The tree is like an antique queen with a burgundy-wine cloak, a chestnut sash, and a golden crown. Soon though, when the first light frost crystallizes her kingdom in silver, the majestic tree begins to droop. The kingdom slowly enters eternal slumber, and it is time for the queen tree to bow down. The first golden leaf flutters to the ground. Fall days grow shorter as the once mahogany branches turn neutral. The sullen tree has lost its last leaf and left silent.

Early winter, as usual, brings frigid winds and no snow. In a few eyes, the tree is no longer a gallant figure. It resembles a skeleton with bone branches entangled with each other. Eyes now glance through the narrow branches down the crooked trunk to the overlooked mound of dirt. Dried wiry vines have wrapped themselves around the rusted railing of an old wrought iron fence. Some of the somber bars lean out of place. Small gaps in the rickety fence have allowed the new sprouts from the mother tree to creep through. The slightly below kneecap fence encloses only a small area. Here sits a little wooden cross concealed by a few low hung branches. The base of the cross is wedged in a crack of the hard frozen earth. The apex of the cross rest against the sturdy trunk of the tree. Except for a small crack at the base and a chip missing from the top right hand corner, the tree has preserved this marker quite well. At the foot of the cross lies the remains of a lily, which was once growing wild in the garden beside the tree. Its faded limp petals draped delicately up against the bottom of the cross, as the small hand of a girl arranged them so last spring.

Tree
The tree that sang in the spring, shouted in the summer, sighed in the fall, changes to a silenced mourner as the first winter snowflakes softly begin to fall.

“To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven, a time to be born, and a time to die….”

All Us All the Time Tips

Easter Egg Decorating Header
In addition to our spring greeting card line, we finally have our tip page up! I know it has been “coming soon” for a long time. You see the problem is my sister and I seem to struggle with that concept of starting out small. When we first talked about adding a tip page to our site, we originally envisioned our tip page having three sections. The first section would be deeply thought provoking journal prompts with profoundly enlightening written examples accompanied by elaborate intricate illustrated layouts of the likes of the Sistine Chapel. Then we would have a section for unique and captivating recipe, decorating and gift basket ideas. Ideas to rival those of Martha Stewart, eloquently laid out with each ingredient intricately illustrated. Finally we would have a craft section with awe-inspiring paper craft ideas and never-thought-of-before color scheme suggestions with of course an extremely elaborate detailed illustrated layout of each and every step of the process including color wheels, charts, and Photoshop screen shots. On top of this all, we would have a Flash movie with our own composed soundtrack and then animated graphics throughout the page.

Easter Egg Basket
Well, who knew all of that would take a bit of time to throw together, time we just did not have. So, in finally coming to terms with reality, something we so rarely like to do, we decided to start simple, no profound or enlightening prose, no Photoshop screen shots, or Flash movie. Instead a very simple layout on a very fun topic – Easter Egg Decorating. You will find on our tip page a brief history on Easter Egg Decorating, Easter Egg Decorating Ideas, and then resources to learn more about Easter Egg Decorating. Now it just wouldn’t be us, if we did not think of our own Easter Egg Decorating idea – Personalized Easter Eggs. Besides filling up your Easter basket, they can also be used as place cards for your Easter Dinner setting. For more details on how to make your own personalized Easter eggs please come and visit our All Tips Page.

Easter Egg Basket
Our goal is to have a fun new tip each month that might include a recipe, decorating or crafting project, a gift basket idea, or other whimsical fancies we may have. We will try to stay grounded and keep it simple, hold off for a while on making that Flash movie with our own composed soundtrack...hum, can you rent out orchestras?

Springtime Greetings

Easter Kitty Stationery
What do I see hopping down the bunny trail? That’s right, Easter Kitty! It just would not truly feel like Easter without our furry rabbit eared feline friend. In an array of pastel colors, Easter Kitty holds a basket of colorful decorated eggs while sporting polka dot rabbit ears and a cute little cottontail. You have a choice of several inside greetings from “Wishing You a Purrfect Easter" to "Easter Bliss". You can also leave blank to compose your own springtime prose.

Easter Bunny Stationery
Besides Easter Kitty, we have stationery of that other popular creature this time of year too, our Bunny Tail collection. A simply cute illustration of bunny buns in coordinating spring hues. Again, you can choose from several inside greetings such as “Some Bunny Loves You", “Happy Easter”, or leave blank for your own Easter wishes.

Flower Stationery
We also have enchanting springtime stationery of flower bouquets and flower petals reproduced from my sister's original watercolor artwork. Her work is quite stunning with intricate details and warm color palettes, a perfect way to welcome in spring. These greetings are available as single greeting cards, stationery sets, or part of our stationery sachets.

How nice to get a touch of spring delivered right to your mailbox.

All Us All the Time...Spring-time Felted Goodness

Pink Felted Bunny

Now that spring is officially here, most of us are packing up our wool sweaters and tucking them away until the next snowfall, which hopefully will be no time soon. Of course my sister is not most of us and any wool sweater she got her hands on during the cold months of winter, has now been felted. That's right, she has learned to felt wool herself, and our closets have not been safe ever since!

Felteteen Rabbit

It is hard to argue though against felted goodness with her latest creation.... "Felteteen" Rabbit. Nothing is more adorable hopping down the bunny trail than our Pink Fuzzy Wuzzy Rabbit. Our little cotton stuffed friend is hand-sewn with blanket stitching from 100% wool felt with a matching pink corduroy backing. At 5" this little fuzzy creature makes a precious gift on its own, will fit perfectly in to any Easter Basket, or perhaps you would just like to keep it for yourself. Quantities are limited.

Easter Egg Felt Tags
Easter Egg Felt Tag

The felted goodness continues with our Easter Egg Wool Felt Gift Tags. Bunnies, chicks, lambs, and spring flowers, these 100% wool felt eggs are embellished with hand-sewn details and a ribbon for hanging. Done in a spring pastel palette, each 3" wool felt gift tag has a small pouch where you can insert jellybeans, small chocolates, a sweet note or a small trinket to accompany your Easter gift. They add a touch of playfulness to any gift or a special keepsake just on their own. If you are not an egg sort-of-a-person, she also has delightful wool felt heart gift tags with matching note inserts.

Pink Bunnies, Easter Eggs, and Hearts, the felted goodness is overflowing at All Us All the Time! Which come to think of it, where is my pink wool sweater?!?

Building Creative Businesses Expo

In looking for ways to always improve our business and serving our customers, last Saturday my sister and I ventured out to the Denver Building Creative Businesses Expo. We were very excited that an event like this was taking place in Denver. They had around 30 exhibitors from art, music, and film organizations and then offered a variety of workshops on starting your own creative business. You could choose up to 3 workshops to attend, and best of all (especially for small business owners) it was free!

In hindsight, we probably did not do the best job in selecting our workshops. Both my sister and I thought they needed to have done a better job with the names of the workshops or provided a short description on each of the sessions. Since we already have our business established, things such as business plans, licenses, branding, etc., have long since been in place. However, for those who truly were just starting a business, it was a great place to gather that type of information. From our 3 workshops, I would say we came away with 3 main key takeaways:

* Know the demographics of your customer base
* Seek out the trends of your target audiences
* Don't be afraid to put yourself out there, or in the words of that commercial, "Just Do It".

There were other important points that were stressed too, such as consistent branding and a web presence. Our suggestion for future expos would be the next step "Running & Operating Creative Businesses" with workshops on marketing for on-line businesses.

Overall we enjoyed our day and hope the expo will be offered again in Denver as well as other venues for the creative community.

Meanwhile, the Easter Bunny is working hard in the studio to bring you our fun-filled Spring-time line with Easter Cards, Stationery, Gift Tags, Felted Goodness, and more. Arriving soon at allusallthetime.com

Bring Your Pet to Blog Day - Trixi-Belle

Trixi Belle
Hello. I would like to take this opportunity today to introduce myself. I am Trixi-Belle, CEC (Chief Executive Cat) of All Us All the Time. My humans would like to think they are the ones running the show, but I think we all know who the true source of inspiration is behind this little creative endeavor. I cannot begin to tell you how tedious my life is monitoring these two at all times.

Constantly having to proof read their work at the computer. Trixi Computer

Always having to supervise with production. Trixi at Work

Oh! Then when we have our board meetings where those two just start bouncing off their ideas, well sometimes...I can't even look at them. Trixi in Basket

Of course the worse is when they forget about the hemispheric rule of our company...the universe revolves around me. That is when I just have to say, "talk to the kitty back". Trixi Pout

You can only imagine how tiring life is around here for a little kitty, but at the end of the day when there is a good lap to be found, it all seems worth it somehow...

Also to help you celebrate this day of love, here is a sweet treat for your sweetheart...and please don’t think that a sweetheart is required to indulge in this sweet sensation:

Strawberries Ducale
Strawberries Ducale

Quite simply this is fresh strawberries with 5 luscious small bowls of chocolate, creams, sugar and liqueur to dip them in.

12 fresh large ripe strawberries, washed, left whole, top stem removed

1.5oz Gran Marnier
2oz powdered sugar
2oz sour cream
2oz whipped cream (whipped & fluffy)

Chocolate Ganache:
2.5oz dark semi sweet chocolate, chopped fine
1.5oz heavy whipping cream

• You will need 5 2oz china or glass ramekin bowls.
• Place Gran Marnier, sugar, sour cream and whipped cream each in a separate bowl.
• Heat to boiling a couple inches of water in a small pot
• Heat heavy whipping cream in a plastic or glass measuring cup in microwave just long enough to make it rise as it heats, about 10-25 seconds
• Place chocolate in a mixing bowl over hot water and add warm cream, mixing well with a whisk (what you have now is warm chocolate ganache) - remove from heat immediately
• Place chocolate in the remaining 2oz china or glass ramekin bowl and serve with the other 4 bowls of creams, sugar, and liqueur for dipping the strawberries – that’s it!

A quite simple and elegant dessert that is easy to make and will earn you rave reviews from your Valentine!

Note: If you are in a rush, chocolate syrup heated in the microwave will work too, but not quite as luscious as the chocolate ganache.

Bonappetit and Happy Valentine’s Day!

Valentine Decorative Paper

Checkerboard Hearts
Can't believe I forgot to mention we now have our Valentine Decorative Paper available on our site, especially since we have over 35 designs! Okay, 36 to be exact. As whimsical as ever, we hope you too will be delighted with all 36 Valentine Heart motifs. For all those having a winter birthday, we also added a party hat fill-in invitation set with disposable party coasters to soon follow.

The coasters probably would be done, but my sister is having to take time off this week for a very important assignment...finding that perfect birthday gift for her sister (that would be me)! Yes, celebrating another year this weekend. I wish I could now go in to how wonderful and meaningful birthdays are for reflection and new beginnings, but I must be honest, they really just depress the hell out of me. On the bright side though, there will be cake, and really, one can never be truly depressed when there is cake. Just a little bit of happiness covered in frosting.

Valentine Felted Goodness

Valentine Felt Hearts
I should have known by the look in her eyes that this was not going to be some passing fling, a one week-end whirl and then on to the next conquest. The obsession was obvious with how she touch, caressed, and whispered softly, seductively as she held it in her hands. Of course, I am referring to my sister and her addiction to wool felt, searching for it, collecting it, and never feeling she has enough of it. Over the years I have learned to live with my sister's obsessions. Excursions to unknown parts of the city, miles away from home, to a place that just might have some color or variety that she does not have in her possession. Helping her seek out her prey and then quietly stepping aside as she goes in for the kill. You are probably asking how do you cope, how do you endure, how does one live with a felt wool addict? It is very simple, really...just let them create!

As in these adorable wool felt heart gift tags that we have just added to our site last weekend. Embellished with hand-sewn details and a silk ribbon for hanging, they can be used to adorn any gift or a special Valentine's keepsake just on their own. They come with matching note cards of sweet words that insert into the heart tag. Each set includes four wool felt heart gift tags with four matching notes.

I have a feeling my friends there will be more felted goodness to come...

Heart's Delight

HAPPY NEW YEAR! We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and is having a great start to the New Year. We started our new year with our Heart's Delight Valentine Day line. These whimsical heart illustrations are a fun way to send a special greeting to your friends and family this Valentine's Day. Of course no Valentine card line would be complete without the infamous Sweetheart Kitty! What a playful way to tell your lover they are absolutely "purrfect"! You will also find Valentine Gift Tags and eventually felt heart tags. Cupid (my sister) is busy working away on those as well as Valentine Decorative Paper and more Stationery Sachets. Come visit our site and celebrate the season of romance.

Besides starting our new year with the Valentine's Day line, we also started it with a very exciting, scary and anxious step...my sister gave notice at her day job to devote full time to our little creative endeavor, allusallthetime.com. Even though we have been working on this for over a year and launched the site last September, it really hasn't seemed real until now. We have so many ideas, which is great, but also leads to a little bit of jetsam and flotsam syndrome for us. Well to be honest we have kind of been plagued with that all our lives. Any hoo, we hope that now we are both full-time employees to our business we will be able to make those ideas and dreams come true on our site. One of those dreams is to write and illustrate our own book, not sure on what, fiction or non-fiction, short story or novel, you know a few small details we need to work out on that. Funny, before I quit my day job I had a plethora of story ideas, and now that I have quit, I feel like my mind has become vast abyss of nothingness. That is why I am so glad my very talented and artistic partner will now full-time be prodding me along. I keep telling her to come up with some of her mystical illustrations and I will just write around them. She thinks I am joking...yeah we will see. Okay enough rambling.

Once again, we hope everyone is having a great start to 2006 and be sure to check our Valentine Heart’s Delights.
