Martini Wednesday with All Us All the Time

Martini
The Cat in the Hat turns 50 years old this year. You can help this fabulous feline celebrate by sending the Cat in the Hat a Birthday card, and Random House Children’s Books will donate one book to First Book from now until May 1, 2007, limit one birthday card per person. You can create your Cat in the Hat birthday card on line or you can mail-in your own hand-made card. Details on how to send your birthday card can be found at Seussville.

To also celebrate the Seuss this month we are going to have a different Martini each Wednesday through March themed after one of those delightful stories. Hum, perhaps an odd combination? Oh let’s face it, you are never too old for Dr. Seuss and there is always a reason for a martini.

Red martini, blue martini, green martini,
Let’s make it one martini!

Red Fish Blue Fish (plus green) Martini
  • 1 oz Grenadine
  • 1 oz Blue Curacao
  • 1 oz Midori Melon
  • Red, blue and green maraschino cherries (can also use red, blue, and green gum drops)
  • Optional: Red, green or blue colored sugar
First pour the grenadine into a chilled martini glass. Then rest the rounded part of a spoon against the inside of the glass. Carefully and slowly pour in the Blue Curacao onto the spoon so it runs down the inside of the glass and layers smoothly. Do this same step again pouring in the Midori. Then garnish your drink with a small wooden skewer with a red, green, and blue maraschino cherry. If you cannot find the colored maraschino cherries, you can use gum drops instead.

Optional: Start by putting the colored sugar on a small plate. Then take your chilled martini glass, dipping the edges in cold ice-water then dipping the glass in red or white sugar.

Last week’s martini: Cat in the Hat
