Willow May Indie Excellence Book Award Finalist

All Us All the Time Publishing is proud to announce that Willow May Goes to the Midnight Carnival, the children's picture book written by Icats Nitram and illustrated by Pamela McCarville, is a finalist in the National Indie Excellence 2008 Book Awards. The Indie Excellence Book Awards are dedicated to celebrating and promoting the outstanding work of independent publishers and authors.

Willow May Goes to the Midnight Carnival was published in January 2008 by All Us All the Time Publishing. The story is about a little girl who goes to the Midnight Carnival where she encounters unique and engaging creatures. The vivid illustrations throughout the book enhance the journey into an enchanting, yet mysterious world of fantasy.

Ice Cream Cone Place Cards

Ice Cream Social Invitations

Can you believe that it is almost Memorial Weekend? Summer is knocking at the door and it is bringing with it ice cream. That’s right. Did you know that July was National Ice Cream month and July 16th is National Ice Cream Day? Yes it is and it so happens that my sister and I love ice cream. I plan to honor the month by indulging in several bowls of creamy coffee ice cream; my sister is honoring the occasion by illustrating ice cream cone fill-in invitations and stationery (show-off).

These colorful ice cream cone invites are perfect if planning an ice cream social to celebrate National Ice Cream month or any occasion with ice cream. We also have festive ice cream sundae invitations available on our site, All Us All the Time.









To kick off the summer right, here is a recipe for homemade vanilla ice cream with suggested flavorings and toppings.

Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream
You will need:

• 2 1/4 c. sugar
• 1/4 c. plus 2 Tbsp. flour
• 1/2 tsp. salt
• 5 cups milk (can substitute 1% milk for a lower fat recipe)
• 4 eggs beaten
• 4 c. whipping cream (can substitute evaporated skim milk for a lower fat recipe)
• 2 Tbsp. vanilla extract
• see optional flavorings below

Combine sugar, flour, and salt in saucepan. Gradually stir in milk. Cool over medium heat approximately 15 minutes or until thickened, stirring constantly. Gradually stir about 1 cup of hot mixture into the beaten eggs. Add egg mixture to remaining hot mixture, stirring constantly. Cook 1 minute and remove from heat. Refrigerate 2 hours. Combine whipping cream and vanilla in large bowl. Add chilled mixture, stirring with wire whisk to combine. Freeze as directed by your ice cream maker/machine. Makes 4 Quarts.

Flavorings:

• Coffee: Add 4 tablespoons of espresso powder or instant coffee to the sugar, flour, and salt mixture.
• Cookies and Cream: Crumble chocolate sandwich cookies in to the mix before freezing.
• Chocolate Chip: Add shaved chocolate in to the mixture before freezing.
• Strawberry/Blueberry/Raspberry/Blackberry/Peach: Mix in 1 to 2 cups of puree fruit to the mixture before freezing.
• Cinnamon: Add a teaspoon of cinnamon to sugar, flour, and salt mixture.
• Chocolate: Stir in 1 cup or more of chocolate syrup into mixture before freezing.
• Food Coloring: For some added fun, add in a teaspoon or more of food coloring to your plain vanilla for a striking bowl of orange, green, blue, red, purple, or yellow bowl of ice cream.

Toppings:

• Chocolate Sauce
• Butterscotch
• Caramel Sauce
• Puree Fruit Sauce
• Peanuts/Walnuts/Almonds
• Cookie Crumbs (chocolate sandwich, chocolate chip, vanilla wafers, graham crackers, animal crackers)
• Chocolate Coated Candies
• Chopped Candy Bars
• Sprinkles
• Marshmallows or Marshmallow Cream
• Jelly Beans
• Bananas
• Whip Cream

...and don't forget the cherries for the top!

Only 166 Days to Halloween. Don't be alarmed, there is still time to get all of your All Hallows Eve's affairs in order. First have you thought postcards? Perhaps tombstone silhouette postcards? Halloween postcards are a perfect way to treat your fanged and non-fanged fiends this Halloween. A small card with an illustration and message on the front and blank on the back for your own other worldly prose, envelope also provided. Illustrations include a bat, cat, witch's hat, ghost, skull, pumpkin, spider, and raven. These postcards can be handed out or attached to gifts (our preferred way of receiving them). Book and Lover's Day

Today, April 23rd, is Book & Lovers Day when Barcelona erupts in a celebration of chivalry and romance. It began in the Middle Ages with an annual Festival of Roses to honor St. George, Patron Saint of Catalonia, who as a brave Roman soldier allegedly slew a dragon about to devour a beautiful young princess. According to legend, a rosebush sprouted from the blood of the dragon and the soldier plucked its most perfect blossoms to give to the princess as a remembrance. In 1923, the Rose Festival merged with International Book Day, established to celebrate the lives of Miguel de Cervantes and William Shakespeare, both of whom died on April 23rd in 1616. Now, bookstalls and flower stands sprout up along the Rambla, a two-mile stretch connecting the city with the Mediterranean Sea. Thousands of Barcelonans crowd the streets to enjoy a festive atmosphere of readings, music, literature, and dance.

Honey Moon Greeting Card

Did you know that the full moon in June was called the honey moon? The name comes from ancient times where tradition holds this is the best time to harvest honey from the hives when they should be full. This was also the traditional month for weddings, between the planting and harvesting of the crops. Many ancient people believed that the union of the Goddess and God occurred in early May (see May Day Baskets blog entry). Since it was considered unlucky to compete with the deities, couples would delay their marriages until June. This remains a favorite month for weddings today. In some traditions, the honey harvested in June would have been fermented and made into mead to drink after the wedding ceremonies held on Summer Solstice. Newly wed couples were also fed dishes that featured honey for the first month of their married life to encourage love and fertility. This is how the holiday immediately after the ceremony derived its name: Honeymoon.

When our illustrator, Pamela McCarville, came upon this story, she created the adorable "Bee Happy" Honey Moon greeting card which is now available through the All Us All the Time online gift store.
